What will I learn in a DIYD workshop?DIYD’s workshops focus on establishing a fundamental knowledge of all the key components of a house related to the topic at hand. Workshops begin by reviewing basic vocabulary and part identification of the house, material, and/or tools. Next we’ll review all the safety and personal protection elements of the topic at hand. If the workshop involves using tools, we’ll also learn about tool safety and skills. Most workshops have a hands-on element or project, depending on the workshop topic. This is a DIY “friendly” project that can be replicated in your own home. We’ll also discuss the boundary where a project is no longer DIY-friendly and when it becomes advisable to contact a professional.

Who is DIYD for?In a nutshell, DIYD workshops are for anyone and everyone over the age of 16 interested in learning about houses. To be more specific, DIYD is for: ⁃ people who are at the beginning of their journey learning about houses and home repair ⁃ people who already know a thing or two, but want the chance to get clarification from an established professional ⁃ New, prospective, and veteran homeowners ⁃ Renters ⁃ People on a budget ⁃ People historically underrepresented in trades ⁃ People who don’t want to DIY but just want to learn how to communicate more effectively with contractors ⁃ People looking for independence, who are tired of having to ask others to complete projects for them ⁃ Power-tool-curious people ⁃ People looking for something fun to do on a weekend!

Where do I find the DIYD schedule of upcoming workshops? The schedule of upcoming workshops lives on the home page of the DIYD website, as well as on our Eventbrite landing page (where the tickets are sold). You can also find details about all of our previously offered workshops on our Eventbrite page. Direct URL to Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/do-it-yourself-darlin-43308914013

How big are the classes?Class size in workshops typically ranges from 5 to 15 people, depending on the topic.
-
How much does a workshop cost?DIYD Workshops are pay-what-you-can. This means that the workshop will have a designated ticket cost, and participants can choose to pay 100%, 75%, 50%, or 25% of this ticket cost based on their financial capability. There are also options for participants to pay as low as $1 or more than the 100% ticket cost, as an extra donation to DIYD. As of 2023, the average 100% ticket cost for a DIYD workshop is $40. This is subject to change.
-
What is my ticket money paying for?Since DIYD is a non-profit, most of DIYD’s general expenses are paid for via grants, sponsorships, and individual donations. Ticket sales help us to offset the costs of specific workshop expenses, such as teacher fees and workshop materials.
-
What is your refund and cancellation policy? We offer full refunds or 1-year workshop credits up to 24 hours before the start time of a workshop. Cancellation requests within 24 hours of the start of a workshop will be handled on a case-by-case basis. We request that you always communicate promptly with us when you are no longer able to attend a workshop, even if you don’t plan to ask for a refund. Knowing the exact size of a workshop class helps us to plan ahead and also to know when we can let people in off of the waiting list. You can reach us via Eventbrite, the website contact form, or by emailing annie@pricehillwill.org.
-
Can I share my idea for a DIYD workshop topic?Yes! We are always open to new ideas for DIYD workshop topics. Contact us via the website contact sheet, or by emailing annie@pricehillwill.org.

Can I bring my kid to the workshop with me?Unless we are explicitly offering childcare at a workshop, we ask that you do not bring children to our workshops as our venue is not child-safe and we do not have a safe and secure location for them to spend time in while you participate in the workshop. If your child is over the age of 16 and interested in attending the workshop as a participant, then we’d love to have them! Please get them their own ticket to the workshop.

What should I wear and bring to a DIYD workshop? Do I need my own tools? We strongly recommend that participants wear close-toed, comfortable shoes, and durable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty or dusty. If you have long hair, it is recommended that you bring a hair tie to put it up during the hands-on portions of the workshops. For workshops involving power tools, DIYD will provide all PPE, but you may bring your own if you have it. This includes safety gloves, googles, ear plugs, and dust masks. While DIYD will provide all tools, including hand and power tools, for all participants at each workshop, we encourage you to bring your own power tools if you have them to the workshop if you’d like the opportunity to learn more about the tools you already have.
